- Do you rent Jet Skis? How much?
You bet we do! Our jet skis are Yamaha Waverunners and are available out of our Mission Bay, Coronado, and Downtown locations. Costs vary between locations (due to wear and tear, licensing, insurance, and other fees) and there is an additional fuel surcharge. Rates start at $90 an hour in Mission Bay, and $99 an hour out of Coronado or Downtown, not including fuel.
- What does renting a Jet Ski entail? How do I do it?
Renting a jet ski is easy! Just come on down to any of the three locations above, any time during business hours, and we'll get you going. Renting one (or more) of our Yamaha Waverunner's requires basically three things: you must have a photo ID, a credit card for deposit, and a willingness to have fun! Oh, and you must be 18 or older to drive. Under 18? Persons 16 an up can drive one of our Mini Speedboats if accompanied by a legal guardian.
- Can I reserve a Jet Ski?
Unfortunately the answer here is no. Jet skis are only available on a first come, first served basis. But don't let that deter you. We have a lot of them. Which means there is often plenty of availability. And if there isn't, don't worry, we'll start a waiting list. And since most rentals are only for an hour or so, typically the waiting list never gets that long.
- Do you rent power boats? Sailboats? Kayaks?
Here at Seaforth we literally rent just about everything you could want for a fun day out on the water. This includes: Power boats from 16 to over 50 feet; Sailboats from 16 to over 50 feet; Fishing boats for both the bay and the ocean; Kayaks - single and tandem; Stand Up Paddle Boards; Peddle Boats; Wakeboarding and towable equipment; even Bikes out of our Mission Bay location. Oh yeah, and of course Jet Skis!
- Do you rent anything else?
Yep. We rent fishing poles too. We seriously rent a lot of different equipment. If it isn't mentioned above, what might you be looking for?
- How much do they cost?
All our prices for boats can be found under each menu item near the top of this page. Just click on Power Boats, Sailboats, et cetera, and all our boats of that type will be listed including prices. Note prices listed for powered vessels do not include additional fuel surcharge.
- How do I go about renting something?
Renting is super easy! Just like for our jet ski rentals, all you need a photo ID and a credit card. Here is how the process works: walk in to any of our Seaforth locations (we have up to 5 seasonally). Take a look at our selection both on our menu boards or you may ask to browse our docks. When you find the boat that is right for you, let one of our office staff know and we can get the rental started.
The rental process is just as straight forward. You have to fill out a rental agreement and we take a credit card and photo ID for a deposit. In the office we will then go over all the laws and rules and safety precautions necessary for the vessel you are renting. After that you head to the dock where our Dock Personnel will assist you with your boat. After brief instruction on operation of your vessel and pointing out all the safety equipment you are ready to take off and enjoy your time on the water!
- Is a deposit required?
Yes, every rental and charter requires a deposit which can be made via credit card. The actual amount of the deposit varies by boat and group but typically run around $500 or more. Now keep in mind, when you return with the equipment undamaged, we simply void out the deposit and you are only charged for the time you spent out on the water. Charters that include a captain to drive the vessel also require a deposit for incidentals.
- What is the fuel surcharge, and how much is it?
Every company seems to be different these days. Some places make you refuel your vessel after you are done with it and before you bring it back - which can be a pain if there isn't a fuel dock near by. Others just charge a larger flat rate with hidden fuel fees included. At Seaforth, we like to take the honest approach which happens to also be the most convenient for you as well - we charge fuel on a variable percentage basis of your rental. Here's how it works: when you rent from Seaforth we provide you with a full tank of gas before you go. When you come back, you don't have to refuel anything, we do that for you. The actual amount you spend on fuel simply depends on the duration of your rental. And since our fuel surcharge is on a variable percentage basis, as fuel prices go back down, so does our fuel surcharge.
Currently the fuel surcharge is 14% for power boats up to 20 feet, 18% for power boats over 20 feet. Some of the larger boats are available in packages with fuel included, whereas some of the fishing boats are rented 'dry' and must be refueled upon return. Keep in mind, those fishing boats are in our Mission Bay location which actually is right next door to the fuel dock.
